Customize Tiger to Look like Leopard

Posted by Scott | June 16, 2007 .

So you all watched the less than exciting video stream of WWDC, and were most likely dissapointed that there was pretty much nothing new announced. I don’t count Safari for Windows something new, I like Firefox much better. What we did see was a slight update of the desktop. Leopards not coming out for a few more months, but why wait? Here’s how to make your OS X Tiger look pretty darn close to Leopard.
Leopard Grass Wallpaper
-First you will need to download the grassy wallpaper from here.
-Once you have the image saved to your computer, just set it as your wallpaper.

Desktop & Icons
-In order to get the clean desktop with no icons present you will need to download Camouflage (free).
-Next up is replacing the icons. You can download the Leopard like icons from this thread (free login required).
-Third step is to make the dock transparent. Download Cleardock to remove the background from the dock.

Menubar
-Leopard sports a new feature that makes the menu bar somewhat transparent so that it blends in more with the wallpaper. To achieve this affect, download MenuShade. This app will let you control the transparency on your menubar. For the best results, keep the shaded and unshaded brightness levels the same after choosing your color and use fake transparency.

Dock
-The new dock has a new 3d-ish background. There is no way to really do this on the actual dock in Tiger. The best looking workaround is to use a Wallpaper that has the 3d background in the same position as your dock. The downside to this is that its one set width so it may or may not fit exactly to your dock. You may have to add or remove apps to it to make it look exactly right.
-Download the dock wallpaper here.

MenuShade works great. But unfortunately, there is now way to remove it from the Dock. Changing the NSUIElement property breaks the transparency effects.

Menushade doesn’t play well with frontrow, do we really need an app to make the menubar transparent, there must be a hack, instead of running an app for this simple task.
