YemuZip | Mac Zip File Compression Application

Posted by Scott | March 22, 2007 .

OS X comes with a compression utility built right into the OS and works perfectly fine. That is unless you want to send the zipped file to someone on a PC. To use the built in archiver to create zip files in OS X just right click on the file(s) you want to zip and select “Create Archive of…”. This will automatically zip up the files, and compress them into a file on the desktop. When using the built in archiver feature, it will work fine on a PC, but there will also be random OS X specific files located in the zip. This may confuse the person somewhat so using YemuZip will solve this problem by creating the zip file and giving you the option to compress for OS X or Windows.

YemuZip is super easy to use. Just open up the app, and drag and drop the files you want to zip onto it. Once you do this, you are asked which OS you’d like to zip for and it handles the rest. For me just using the built in archiver in OS X works fine. But if your picky and dont want the extra files showing up for windows users then YemuZip is for you.

Download YemuZip to zip files in OS X.
