Quick Tip | How to Take Screenshots in OS X

Posted by Scott | March 7, 2007 .

I’ve been seeing a lot of applications showing up in my RSS feeds that are built around taking screenshots. I’m not really sure why all of a sudden I’m seeing more and more of these types of applications, and I’m not really sure of the real point in having them. OS X has a built in screenshot taker tool thingy. So here is the first of many soon to come quick tips for using OS X.

To take a screenshot in OS X, just press apple key+shift+4. Once you press this key combination, your mouse will change to a little cross aire type symbol and you can now select any part of the screen you want to take a screenshot of by clicking and dragging to highlight your desired area. Once you click, drag, and then let go at the desired point, you will hear a little camera noise and the screenshot will appear as a .PNG file on your desktop. Thats it. No need to download all this fancy software to take the screenshots for you. Sure there are added features in these tools which I’m sure are helpful to some people, but if all your looking for is a quick screenshot, then apple shift 4 is all you need.

    Apple+shift+3 for all the screen.
Apple+shift+4 plus space bar you can shot a window or a menù.
Apple+ctrl+shift+4 your image is copied to clipboard so you can paste later.
