MagiCal | Mac Menu Bar Drop Down Calendar

Posted by Scott | April 8, 2007 .

While OS X has covered just about everything from a usability standpoint, I always little things that I think are obvious but arent included. I’ve written before about the lack of an easy way to launch applications that you dont want to take up space on the dock. The second annoyance I have is not having a current date/calendar easily accessible in the menu bar next to the clock. You would think that this would be an easy addition to make with the integration into iCal, but alas, its not there.

MagiCal is a perfect solution for your current date woes. The icon is very small and non-intrusive date and month. When you click on the icon you get a drop down that shows the full calendar month, and you can rip off the “page” and have it as a type of widget that sits on your desktop if you like.

MagiCal is a really simple application, but its one that once you have it installed you’ll not want to be without. There are a few other menu calendars for OS X such as MenuCalendarClock, which is the one I use. Howerver, Menu Calendar Clock isnt free if you want the full version. The trial is never ending and I just happen to like the icon better, so thats the only reason I use it. MagiCal is a perfectly good subsitution though, and doesnt cost a dime.

If you like to know what the current date is, then Download MagiCal Menu Bar Calendar for Mac OS X.
