Call of Duty 4 Error – 128 bones??

A little off topic from the typical postings, but I was playing Call of Duty on Xbox 360 the other night and received a strange error message. I did some looking around but havent seen anyone else reporting this message. Xbox live has been having all kinds of problems for past 2 weeks. Not sure if this is another one of those problems or if was an actual glitch in the game.

Anyone else seen this error message?

I read today about a new startup service called BlogRush, and thought it was actually a really good idea. BlogRush is basically a syndication network for bloggers to use in gaining more traffic and awareness for their site. The service is still in its early days and is in Beta for English sites only.

You can see BlogRush in action in the sidebar on the right hand side of the page. It is a list of 5 links (based on the category I selected) of other members of the network. The way your site gets listed is on a point system based on both the number of page views your site has daily as well as any referral sign ups you have. It’s a little tricky to try to explain, so watch the video on their website to learn more about exactly how it works.

After a few days of data collection, you will be able to log into their dashboard to see stats about the referrals both to and from your site as well as a few other reports. It will be interesting to see how this site develops, and if it gets large enough, how people find ways to spam it. If you run a site and are interested in testing it out, go ahead and sign up for a BlogRush Account.

AddThis.com | Add social bookmarking buttons to Your Website

For a post completly unrelated to anything Mac other than the fact that I’m typing the post on one, I wanted to help spread the word about a site called AddThis.com. Social bookmarking/networking is a great way to get traffic coming into your site, build incoming links, and reach thousands and thousands of potential visitors. I’ve tried a couple of wordpress plugins like sharethis, sociable, and a few others but didnt like one thing or another about them.

I found out about AddThis.com from checking out another site and noticed they had one single button that would take you to a page with options for submitting to multiple different social sites and liked how it kept everything neat and organized and didnt clutter up the page with a million little images that no one ever uses. Furthermore, signing up for an account on AddThis.com will provide you with access to statistics on various levels about what is being submitted and how often from your site.

So if you have a blog or website and want to allow people to submit your content to the social networking sites, I highly recommend checking out AddThis.com. I also highly recommend taking advantage of this addtion to Mac Utopia(locatedÂ on individual post pages only) and submitting my stuff for me to make even more people aware of the site.

More people = more comments = more of your questions being answered = new apps being discovered. Everyone wins, so get to bookmarking.

Back from NY

I am indeed still alive, but with very sore legs. For those of you that dont know I’ve been in New York all week at the SES conference. I had a good time but Im glad to see some trees and grass again. While I was there I did get a chance to check out the Apple store that I’ve heard so much about. It’s a pretty impressive building and is alot bigger than any than I’ve seen previously. Here’s a close up picture I grabbed, and no that’s not me, its one of the security guards they have standing around it:

Now that I’m back, I can get back into posting OS X application reviews on a more regular basis, and I have a pretty good list saved up to share with everyone. I’ve also changed up the design of the site. It’s a bit more Macish feeling and is a pretty good looking layout in my opinion.

New direction

So this blog has become pretty stale as I dont have anything creative like limmerick friday, top 10 thursday, parenting tips wednesday, or sports all day everyday to keep it going.Â Since I dont like talking about myself I was trying to come up with something to post on thats not time sensitive (keeping up with the Lost blog is way too time consuming) and that would generate some good traffic. As I was reading my normal RSS feeds an idea came to me.Â One of the feeds I have is Lifehacker.com which has a lot of stuff I couldn’t care less about, but sometimes she will post about some pretty useful software in her daily downloads category.Â So I’ve decided I’m going to do my own little daily download, except it probably wont be daily and its not going to have any of that dirty PC software nonsense.Â It’s going to be dedicated to the wonderful world of Macs.Â Either you love them or you hate them, and most of the people I know that hate them say its because of a lack of software.Â Hopefully I can change a few minds, spread the word on some really cool things you can do on the mac, and get a little more traffic coming in to the site.

So I have this friend who does alot of online marketing..I won’t mention any names but he works from home. He interviewed with Microsoft about a year ago for a position that has a pretty funny story to go along with it, but in the end he didnt get offered the job. That is, until today. Microsoft calls him out of the blue and asks him if hes still interested in taking the position, the following is a summary of our conversation about it.

Mystery Man: MSFT called and offered me a job today..

Me: wow they sure take their sweet time following up on an interview

Mystery Man: yep

Me: tell them youll take it for 100k

Mystery Man: at least that much..

Me: So are you really thinking about taking it?
Mystery Man: no way

Me: why not?

Mystery Man: I’d have to put some clothes on..

So.. can anyone guess who this mystery man is who has been offered a job with the devil?

Blades of Glory – Greatest Movie of 2007

As I sit watching the stupid Real World/Road Rules challenge because nothing else is on, I am presented with a preview for what looks to be one of the greatest movies to grace the silver screen in 2007. Basically, its impossible for this movie to be a failure simply due to the cast. Blades of Glory will star Will Ferrell, Jon Heder (Napolean Dynamite), and Craig Nelson (the guy from Coach).

Fresh off of making fun of us southerners and the “sport” of NASCAR, Will Ferrell will now move on to the “sport” of male figure skating with his arch enemy on the ice Jon Heder. The two are banned from figure skating and are forced to form the first male/male figure skating duo and climb the ranks back to the top.

An official synopsis of the movie is as follows:

“…two male figure skating rivals aching to compete despite having been banned from the sport as a result of a nasty row at the 2002 Winter Olympics. When they discover a loophole that will allow them to perform together in the pairs figure skating category, they determine to put their differences aside for the sake or their gold medal aspiriations.”

Between Ben Stiller and Will Ferrell, Dodgeball, then Nascar, and now figure skating have all been made fun of. I for one can only hope that the next sport they decide to make fun of is competitive blogging.
