Quintura - Visualizing Search Engine Results

Posted by Scott | May 22, 2006 .

Quintura Search Last week I wrote a review of Snap.com which can be found here. Today I came across another type of search engine that is trying to change the way we search in order to make it more efficient in finding what you are actually looking for as the amount of information on the internet continues to grow. This one is from a company called Quintura and looks very impressive thus far. Rather than having an actual web address to go to like the other current search engines, Quintura is an application that you download that pulls its results from the various search engines such as Yahoo!, MSN Search, Google, and Technorati.

From Quintura’s site:

Quintura Search offers a visual map of tags or hints contextually related to your search query. You can add or subtract tags from the query with a click of the mouse, this One-Click-Search function lets you specify the context or meaning of the query.

The way the search works is you begin by typing in a keyword that you are looking for, you are then presented with various other keywords related to the one you entered. You begin selecting keywords from the list and by doing so you are continuously narrowing down the results which are updated and displayed in real time in the right hand column. As you add words to the scope of the results you can see that the results shown become more and more specific to exactly what you are lookin for.  With Quintura you are also able to save searches as projects and continue on with them at a later time.
You can see a demo of Quintura Search in action here and here. Or you can download the Quintura’s search client here and try it out for yourself.

Thank you, Scott. We simply make searching better. We recently launched a visual search service at http://search.quintura.ru for the Russian market. The service in English is going live soon. Stay tuned!

Awesome, I look forward to seeing the English version. Thanks for the update, and feel free to post here again once the English version is live.

Looks interesting, but still…couldn’t this be done without the need of installing client app? Anyway, good luck.

That is what the above comment above from Yakov is saying. They are working on an English version of the web application so that the client download isnt necessary.
