Today I made a trip to Northgate Mall in Durham. My old stompin ground. I worked at this mall for about at least 5 years through high school and a little while home from college. Needless to say, it has changed quite a bit. For one thing I believe, out of all the people there, I’d say I was 1 of the maybe 3 white people there, trying to get past all of the stores such as “Urban Hype” and other such stores which displayed lime green tuxedos in the windows in hopes of pimpin some young gentleman out for his night at the club. Other than these stores there were various other funny things that I noticed. Listed below as I like to do.
1. The funniest thing would probably have to be myself getting a haircut buy the lovely young ladies, but thats besides the point.
2. Suncoast, a movie is store is going out of business there so everything was on sale. I venture in to find some great deals such as Jake The Snake’s Greatest Matches DVD. But the funnier things seen would be the old man, easily in his 60s looking at the adult section of movies. He was there for a good 20 minutes browsing through all of the fine titles. He was like an old man in an adult shop…or a kid in a candy shop, which ever you prefer.
3. Third thing is also from Suncoast. Two very thugged out gentlemen in their large jeans that are being held up by their thighs ( I think it was their thighs, it was hard to judge due to their “Tall Tee” which was also down to their knees.) browsing through the Anime section, arguing over which cartoon charater was more powerful in the art of battle.
4. I decided to go in to Footlocker and check out the new kicks that are coming in for the season. There are some crazy looking new shoes in there, but the ones that caught my eye the most and made me say “That’s weird”, were the shoes made by Goodyear. I feel sorry for the kids who’s mom sees these and makes them wear them to school because not only were they ugly, but as mentioned before they are made by Goodyear…a tire company.
5. While walking by a store I hear loud yelling and smell the sweat of true competition. I look up to see what this store is called as I am aproaching it, and its a Game Frog. If your unaware of what this is, its a basically a store for parents to drop their annoying kids off at and they can pay to play video games on xbox, playstation and the computer. These games are all networked toghether for LAN play or you can play online with xbox live. I didnt dare go in for fear of being seen by anyone that I know and feeling like an idiot in this modern arcade filled with sweaty nerdlingers batteling it out in various war games while yelling such things as “PWNED”, “NOOB”, and other various gaming / interweb insults.
All in all it was a vary entertaining trip to this sad excuse for a mall known as Northgate. Although they are doing alot of remodeling in order to compete with South Point mall, there is no chance in it being anything worth ever going to on purpose.
