Nintendo Wii Controller. How it works.

Posted by Scott | May 10, 2006 .

Nintendo Wii Sensor
Recently, Nintendo posted a picture of the sensor that works with the “Wiimote Control” for picking up the sensor and the movements you make with it. From the official Nintendo site, “Up to four Wii Remotes can be connected at once using wireless Bluetooth technology. The wireless signal can be detected within 10 meters of the console. Both the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers include a three-axis motion sensor.”

The Nintendo Wii controller is motion sensitive and reacts to the movement of your hand. It can be used in many different types of gaming situations from golf, fishing, baseball and tennis, to other games such as fighting, gun shooting, and many others.

The way the controller works is there are multiple gyroscopes inside the controller, that react to the tilting and rotation of the controller in various directions. It is sensitive to speed and acceleration of your hand movements and can hopefully provide an accurate replication of the movement on the screen. Growing up I remember always seeing friends moving the controller in the directions they wanted the character on screen to move. I always thought they looked dumb, but even in the 80s they were way ahead of the time, and now Nintendo is taking this idea and making it a reality, giving you even more control in a very innovative way over your gaming.
