Apple has just released a new version of their laptops based on the Intel Chips. These are the replacements of the “lower end” ibooks based on the PPC chips. But some people arent getting the warm fuzzy feeling most people get from using their new Apple computer. The new macbooks come in white like the old ones and a new flavor of black. Similar to the strategy with the iPods since the black ones sold very well.
The problem so far lies with the new black Mac. Some people have began reporting less than 24 hours of its release that the black paint is very fragile and is flaking off revealing the undercoating. The black iPods had a similar problem when first release, as they were very prone to scratches, which Apple quickly addressed and corrected. Hopefully they will act as quickly in regards to the laptops as well.
Other problems being reported with both versions of the Macbook are the ability to type and actually see the screen. The Macbooks keyboard layout is slightly different than typical keyboards on laptops and users are reporting that they are finding it difficult to type on it. The problem with the XBrite screen is people are reporting that it is sometimes hard to actually see whats on the screen. Mostly the problem lies when trying to use the computer outside where it is bright, or any other location where the lighting is not optimal. This could be a big problem because the main reason people want a lap top is portability, in which case the lighting is always changing. If your limited to only being able to see the screen at home where the lighting is how you like it, you might as well have waited for the new desktops coming from Apple planned to be released sometime near the end of 2006.
Update:
According to the author of the original source of information about the “Blackbooks” flaking or peeling has stated that he believes it was an isolated situation. All though if you go here to where the story was Dugg, there are a few people that have also stated they saw flaking and peeling in person in the comments. As for me I think I will hold off purchasing one of the new Macbooks, and when I decided to I’d probably stilll go with the White one just because I like it better.
If you would like to make a comment, please fill out the form below.
Are you sure? I know two people who picked up the new black MacBook, and no problems for them so far.
I can’t find this anywhere else… could you post some story links?
There is actually a link to one story in the post in the 2nd paragraph where it says “people have began reporting.”
Just like all of the supposed “virus” attacks, there is never any proof. Don’t post something you have no clue about.
First of all, I love Apple. I have a G5 and have had it for over 2 years, and will never use PCs unless i absolutly have to. So I wasnt just posting a story to flame macs. All I did was post an article that some people were reporting that the paint on the laptops scratches off, and that people dont like the keyboards and screens. Apple Girl, Your ip address is coming from harvard university’s campus. I would expect someone with the brain power of a harvard student to grow up and have a somewhat more mature attitude than that of a 12 year old fan boy.
A Harvard/Apple girl? Send her Wills way.

Harvard girls don’t give up the nappy…that’s a fact.
Y’all can stop piling on Apple Girl, because it turns out the paint-peeling thing was an isolated, overblown incident. Mark Lem himself follows up:

As for the screen issue, I don’t see any source for that, and it sounds even fishier. What notebook, Mac or Wintel, doesn’t wash out in outdoors sunlight? Gimme a break.
Im glad it was an isolated situation, although if you go to digg and read the comments on this story there are a few people that say they saw peeling and flaking as well. I will update the post and put a link to the digg comments.
Now back to your normal mac obsessive lives.
I’m glad I use PC’s. :]
